En effet, « Mou » disposerait aujourd'hui d'un intérêt de Manchester United, dont la direction américaine n'est pas à 100% convaincu d'avoir fait le choix optimal avec Louis Van Gaal, en vue du mois de juin. Il est vrai que MU tarde à retrouver une place digne de son rang, que ce soit au niveau de la Premier League qu'en Ligue des champions. Au sein du board de Manchester United, même si on a entamé aucune démarche concrète, on commencerait à penser qu'un coach gagnant comme Mourinho pourrait être la meilleure solution pour relancer le club sur deux ans. L'idée, en tout cas, ne serait pas sans séduire José Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho wants Manchester United to be his next job, sources close to the Portuguese manager have told ESPN FC, and representatives have already taken initial steps to try and make it happen.

The 52-year-old has reportedly long coveted the Old Trafford role, and his dismissal by Chelsea on Thursday could finally open the way, especially with the problems current United boss Louis van Gaal is suffering.

Sources have said it is no longer so certain Van Gaal will see out the final year of his contract in 2016-17, and though much depends on performance in the remainder of this season, United have already begun pursuing Pep Guardiola as the Dutchman's successor.

Manchester United are seeking a long-term replacement for Louis van Gaal and have approached Mourinho about taking over at Old Trafford. Though the position appeals to the Portuguese, both parties believe that an end-of-season handover of power would be preferable to taking control during the club's current Premier League campaign.

Ed Woodward would like to avoid the embarrassment of sacking the second 'permanent' managerial appointment of his short tenure as United's executive vice-chairman mid-season; particularly as Van Gaal - unlike predecessor David Moyes - was hand picked by Woodward for the role. United's chief executive has encouraged Van Gaal to continue as manager through a debilitating seven-week sequence of results that has seen his team eliminated from the Champions League, while slipping to sixth in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho has written Manchester United a six-page letter explaining his strong desire to manage the club and how he would be willing to adhere to United’s principles. He also outlined his plans for the team, and the key decisions he would take.

Mourinho, who was sacked by Chelsea last month, believes that a detailed charm offensive can finally secure his dream job of managing United once his old mentor Louis van Gaal leaves, and that depature is now widely expected to come in the summer.

Though Mourinho immediately targeted United as his next job after leaving Chelsea, the 52-year-old was keen not to step on Van Gaal’s toes. He worked for the Dutch coach at Barcelona between 1997-2000, and greatly respects him.

En Portugal, fuentes bien informadas aseguran que Mourinho ya tiene cerrado un acuerdo con el Manchester United. Su agente, Jorge Mendes, también hace y deshace en el club de Old Trafford, de ahí que se haya encargado de postularle como el mejor sustituto para Van Gaal. La única duda es si Mou tendría que precipitar su llegada esta misma temporada en caso de que la continuidad del holandés fuera insotenible, o lo haría ya en junio, con mayor margen de maniobra. Al igual que ocurrió en el Real Madrid, donde Florentino Pérez vio en Mourinho al antídoto del Barça de Guardiola, en el United suspiraban por Pep, pero paradójicamente acabarán apostando por su antagónico.

The 53-year-old Portuguese, who was sacked by the Blues in December, is increasingly hopeful of succeeding Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford.

No agreement has been reached, and the club have made no comment, but negotiations have begun.
