Dundee FC --- The Dees

Dundee have signed former Rangers defender Bob Malcolm on a short-term deal until the end of the season.

Malcolm is a free agent after leaving Motherwell to play in Australia.

Dundee boss Jocky Scott is waiting on international clearance before deciding whether Malcolm will feature at Dens Park against Inverness on Saturday.

Malcolm joined Australian side Brisbane Roar on a one-year deal in July and hooked up with former Rangers team-mates Craig Moore and Charlie Miller.

First Division leaders Dundee sack manager Jocky Scott

Jocky Scott has been sacked as Dundee manager after the First Division leaders lost to bottom club Airdrie.

Scott was relieved of his duties at a board meeting at Dens Park, 15 months after taking charge for a third time.

Dundee's failure to win any of their last four games means their lead at the top has been cut to three points.

Dundee appoint Gordon Chisholm as new manager

Dundee install Gordon Chisholm and Billy Dodds as their new management team following Jocky Scott's sacking.
The pair leave First Division rivals Queen of the South to take over at Dens Park, with the league leaders three points clear in the promotion race.

Dundee will make an announcement of their appointment on Sunday evening.

Dundee Football Club's new manager is Gordon Chisholm and his assistant manager is Billy Dodds.

Both are former Dundee FC captains, have won this division for the club as players, and have worked together at Dundee United and Queen of the South, taking both clubs to the Scottish Cup Final.

Their contracts will run until the end of the 2011/12 season.

Dundee manager Gordon Chisholm will react to his team’s failure to win promotion to the SPL by making swingeing cuts to the playing staff this summer.

The Dark Blues have been found wanting after leading the First Division for much of the season and will have to watch Inverness be presented with the trophy on the final day of the campaign.

Dundee are nine points behind with three games remaining but have a much inferior goal difference as their title hopes were all but ended after the weekend 2-2 draw against Morton.

Chisholm, who replaced Jocky Scott last month, now plans a major clearout of players and will meet the club’s board in the next few weeks to discuss budgets for next season.

He said: “I’m not willing to accept the kind of performance we got at Morton on Saturday. I’ve been to see them numerous times and know you have to handle the physical side of the game.

“We were not up to it, so that’s something I have to change. It means me stamping my mark on this place in the summer.

“I will bring in my own players and be judged on what they do.

“I’ve got a good idea of the direction I want to go and will wait until the end of the season before making any announcements.

“The club has invested but has been unsuccessful, so, of course, there are consequences. We’ve got to improve and that means by making changes.

Dundee aim to axe 16 from squad

Dundee have released nine players - including player of the year Jim Lauchlan - and told four others they are free to find new clubs.

It follows the club's failure to win Division One and promotion.

Tony Bullock, Derek Soutar, Eddie Malone, Gary MacKenzie, David Cowan, Colin Cameron, Darren Young, Bob Malcolm and Lauchlan are released.

Ritchie Hart, Maros Klimpl, Chris Casement and Bryan Deasley have been told they are no longer wanted.

Should those four leave over the summer, manager Gordon Chisholm will be minus 16 players - half his present squad - with on-loan Ryan O'Leary, Andrew Shinnie and Ben Hutchinson returning to their parent clubs.

Dundee had started the season as favourites, having outspent most Scottish Premier League clubs in building their squad, and had led for much of the season before a late dip in form allowed resurgent Inverness Caledonian Thistle to win promotion.
